Vikings extend four game win streak

CAMROSE, AB - Continuing to roll, the Augustana Vikings defeated the Keyano Huskies 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23) Friday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Vikings remain tied for first place in the ACAC North Division alongside the Lakeland Rustler, whom they will take on next weekend in a home-and-home battle. The Vikings now have an 8-1 record, while also extending their four-game win streak. Meanwhile, the Huskies are in fourth place in the north with a 3-6 record.

Leading the charge to victory was third-year Viking Shae Boyes with 18 kills and three aces. Her 18 kills on the night now bring her season total to 121, the second-most in the league. Teammate and setter, Sarah Dedrick added three kills for a perfect kill percentage on top of 31 assists.

Across the court, the Huskies found success from fourth-year outside hitter who had 11 kills, nine digs, and one ace, while second-year setter, Jamie Stokes had 34 assists, six digs, and one ace.

After a long delay due to the men's game going to a hard-fought fifth set, the women finally took to the court with the Vikings taking control and generating more chances on their way to a first set win, 25-21.

With the second set looking no different, the Vikings entered the third and possible deciding set with a comfortable lead. However, with the Huskies fighting to stay alive, they managed to hold their host to just eight kills on 33 attacks to win the third set 25-20.

However, wanting to end the already long night, the Vikings bounced back to claim a tight fourth set win, 25-23 along with the match victory.

Both teams will take to the court again tomorrow afternoon for a rematch at Augustana Gym at 3 PM, you can catch all the action live on ACACTV.
