CAMROSE, AB. — The University of Alberta Augustana is pleased to announce the appointment of Nathan Kravetsky as the new Head Coach of Vikings Men’s Basketball ahead of the upcoming ACAC season.
Bringing 24 years of coaching experience and a lifelong passion for basketball, Kravetsky steps into the role with a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court while fostering a culture built on teamwork, growth, and a love for the game.
For Kravetsky, basketball has been a lifelong passion that began in childhood.
“My coaching journey started with a passion for basketball as a child watching the NBA and then from my own experience in college ball,” he said. “That passion has carried into my love for making the game accessible for others to enjoy it as much as I do.”
Over the course of his coaching career, Kravetsky has worked with athletes at every stage of development, from young children at Applesauce Basketball Academy to collegiate athletes at both Augustana and Ambrose University. Throughout those experiences, his focus has remained consistent: using basketball as a vehicle to positively impact the lives of athletes.
“With 24 years of coaching experience, I’ve had many opportunities to coach athletes from five years old all the way to young adults at the college level,” he said. “My love of the game has always been the driving factor behind my coaching, and I’ve tried to coach as many teams as I can to make as positive an impact as possible in the basketball world.”
The opportunity to lead the Vikings Men’s Basketball program was particularly meaningful because of his own experiences growing up in a small-town community and the doors basketball helped open for him.
“Having grown up in a small town, I understand the importance that sport, and specifically basketball, can have in a person’s life,” he said. “Through the opportunities I received from basketball, I was able to pursue a degree in teaching while continuing my playing career. Through working with the Vikings basketball team, I hope to open similar doors for these athletes so they can move forward from the University of Alberta and make positive differences in the world in whatever path they choose.”
Kravetsky's connection to the program is already well established. Having served as an assistant coach with the Vikings during the 2025–26 season, he has developed strong relationships with many of the current student-athletes and gained a deeper understanding of the culture within the program.
“I have some history with these athletes from my time as an assistant coach,” he said. “I’ve been able to connect with them on an individual level, understand their struggles, successes, and joys, and I look forward to continuing to work with them and helping them grow.”
As he prepares for his first season as head coach, Kravetsky is excited not only about leading the team but also about becoming a larger part of the Augustana and Camrose communities.
“While I am at Augustana to be a coach, I am also looking forward to becoming a part of the beloved community of Camrose and Augustana,” he said. “I’m excited to help steer athletes toward success through skill development, athleticism, passion for the game, and a collective team effort.”
Looking ahead, his goals for the program focus on creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive individually while contributing to a strong team culture.
“My goals for this season are to create an environment where athletes can succeed as individuals, work successfully as a team, and continue pursuing their love of this sport together,” he said.
As Vikings Men’s Basketball prepares for the upcoming ACAC season, Kravetsky’s extensive coaching experience, passion for mentorship, and commitment to student-athlete success position the program for continued growth both on and off the court. With strong relationships already established within the team and community, his appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Vikings Men’s Basketball and its future.
