Vikings Women’s Basketball dominate in first win of the season

CAMROSE, AB - Commanding the game from start to finish, the Augustana Vikings defeat the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves 80-42 at the Augustana Gym in Friday night's ACAC season opener.

The Vikings improve to 1-0 to start the season, while the Wolves will have to continue the hunt for their first win.

Leading the offensive charge was third-year Viking Tegan Mackinnon with 12 points and four assists, while fellow third-year Katie Ballhorn netted 11 points. Defensively, it was all fourth-year Lauren Cardinal who gathered up a total of 10 rebounds.

The visiting Wolves found success in second-year Gracie Reschke with 11 points and rookie Raylene Badger draining 10 points on the night.

In an evenly matched first quarter, the two teams bounced between score leaders, before the Vikings officially took control, ending the quarter with the home side up 21-15.

Continuing to build, the Vikings found themselves leading by an impressive 19 points, leaving the Wolves with little room for error heading into halftime.

The momentum was officially in behind the hosts for the second half with the largest gap between the two squads happening midway through the fourth when the Vikings lead by 39 points, before closing out the game with an 80-42 win.
