Although the team endured multiple injuries with a short bench for several of the games, the team has been fairly successful throughout their first half. With a stellar weekend in late October against 3-time defending ACAC Champions, the MacEwan Griffins, the Vikings played very well and was able to come out of the weekend with a two win streak. They were able to end this first semester on a high note with a two-game sweep against the Portage College Voyageurs.

Head Coach Blaine "Gus" Gusdal noted several of the team's accomplishments and specific individuals in their achievements throughout the first half of this season. With accomplishing record breaking stats for a Viking's Hockey athlete, Curtis Skip in his 5th year surpassed the most career wins as a goaltender for the men's hockey team. Defenseman, Tavis Roch holds 11 points after 14 games and leads the team in plus/minus rating by +7. Gus noted that his 3 first-year rookies, Owen Lamb, Jack Hamly, and Quintin Sudom, have great consistency and have contributed well to the team all semester.

The Vikings have six 5th Year players as they approach their final semester. Gus states that they will be "relied upon heavily in the 2nd semester to lead our team. Curtis Skip, Cody Fiala, Evan Warmington, Lukas Biensch, Joren Johnson and Matthew Martin take the reins to lead this group through their final season."

As the team approaches the final half of the season, they are hopeful for injured players to regain their health for the year, and that the team can remain healthy for playoff time. Coach Gus is very pleased with the great groups of athletes he has had the pleasure of coaching on his team. "They all play really hard and care for each other so this next step is to improve our consistently game to game," he says. Their goal is to win more games this next half of the season and to see an ACAC Championship.

The team looks forward to the Vikings Hockey Alumni and Parents Weekend is February 7th-8th, 2020, which concluded with their Annual Pub Night on the 8th. As well, the outdoor game vs. SAIT in Falun on Saturday, Feb. 22nd at 1:00 PM. And lastly, Playoffs in March.
