CAMROSE, AB - In front of a packed crowd, the University of Alberta, Augustana Vikings, took down the visiting NAIT Ooks 86-57, Friday night at Augustana Gym.
The win brings the Vikings season record to 2-1 after splitting last weekend's series against the GPRC Wolves. Meanwhile, this game marked the Ooks 2021-22 ACAC season opener.
Making the difference was the Vikings starting line who combined for 73 of their 86 points on the night, with captain Nathan Bowie netting 20 points.
Across the court, the Ooks found plenty of success from third-year Griffin Lorenz, scoring 19 points on a perfect shooting percentage. Not far behind, also having a perfect night was fellow third-year Luka Korosec with 14 points.
After a slow start for both teams as they struggled to get a shot to fall, the Vikings finally broke the goose eggs two minutes into the quarter. Midway through the quarter with the Vikings up 4-2, Tyler Weenink was able to finish with a putback dunk, kick-starting the Viking's momentum, closing out the quarter, 23-10.
Continuing to roll the rest of the game, the Vikings lead through every quarter as the Ooks struggled to maintain control of the ball as the Vikings generated 11 steals to end the game with a 29 point lead, 86-57.
The Ooks and Vikings will meet again tomorrow night at NAIT for a rematch at 3:00 PM MT. Catch all the action live on ACACTV.
